Data loss and cyberattacks rank among the most significant risks businesses face today. A well-structured, multi-tier backup strategy can determine whether a company remains operational after an incident — and it goes far beyond conventional IT safeguards.
Firewalls and antivirus software are necessary, but they are not enough. Taking IT security seriously today means treating it as a continuous process rather than a one-time installation. This philosophy underpins the approach taken by INFOSERVE, an IT systems and consulting house based in Saarbrücken, Germany: a layered portfolio combining vulnerability analysis, security training, and multi-tiered data protection.
Finding Weaknesses Before Attackers Do
The first step toward resilient IT security is systematic analysis of one’s own infrastructure. INFOSERVE’s Netscan service scans IT systems automatically and regularly from an external perspective, checking for known vulnerabilities. Where automated scans reach their limits, individual penetration tests take over: security experts simulate targeted attacks to identify and eliminate hidden weaknesses before they can be exploited.
Beyond technical measures, INFOSERVE also addresses the human factor. Social engineering audits and awareness training help employees recognize common manipulation tactics and adopt more security-conscious behavior. Statistically, many successful attacks begin not with technical tools but with deliberate deception of individuals.
Three Backup Tiers for Different Scenarios
The final pillar of INFOSERVE’s comprehensive security concept is data protection — particularly for virtualized environments. The company offers three complementary backup options, each tailored to specific risk scenarios.
Standard Backup: Daily Protection as a Foundation
The Standard Backup creates daily snapshots of virtual machines, enabling recovery of data from the past seven days. It covers common incidents such as system failures, faulty updates, or accidental file deletion. Backup copies are stored at two physically separate locations on the company campus in Saarbrücken-Güdingen — ensuring that even a fire at one location leaves data intact. The Standard Backup is included with every virtual machine operated by INFOSERVE.
Offsite Backup: Protection Against Site-Wide Failure
The Offsite Backup adds geographic redundancy to the Standard Backup. A complete copy of all backup data is stored at a location several kilometers away from the main site. This ensures a full data baseline remains available even in the hypothetical event of the entire Saarbrücken-Güdingen campus becoming unavailable — a scenario that, while rare, is increasingly relevant in the context of compliance requirements.
Offline Backup: Defense Against Ransomware
The Offline Backup is specifically designed to address a growing threat: ransomware. Since such attacks are often detected only after a delay, backup data is retained for 30 days. Critically, the encrypted data is stored with an external storage provider in a way that prevents deletion or modification during the retention period — even by INFOSERVE staff. This means that even a complete compromise of the systems house itself would not result in the loss of these backup copies.
Experience and Certification as a Foundation
INFOSERVE operates ISO-certified data centers and draws on more than 30 years of experience in the IT industry. The company provides individualized consulting and supports businesses in building sustainable, long-term protection for their IT infrastructure — not as isolated fixes, but as a structured, comprehensive, and forward-looking approach.
