NAVEX is extending its WhistleB whistleblowing and case management solution with AI-assisted redaction of personal data. The feature is designed to identify sensitive information in case files automatically and prepare it for removal. According to the company, the final decision on every redaction stays with the investigator handling the case.
NAVEX is adding AI-assisted redaction of personal data to its WhistleB whistleblowing and case management solution. The risk and compliance software vendor presents the move as part of a broader rework of WhistleB aimed at organizations based in Europe that face rising regulatory requirements.
Manual review as a bottleneck
Until now, cases in whistleblowing systems had to be reviewed and redacted individually by hand. According to the company, that process ties up staff and carries the risk that sensitive details are overlooked. The new capability is intended to identify personal information in case files quickly and allow its removal once it is no longer needed. NAVEX expects this to produce more consistent handling of sensitive data and reduce the retention of information that is no longer required.
The investigator keeps the final call
Users will be able to choose between a revised manual redaction process and optional AI assistance. The AI component flags information that may need to be removed, while the final decision remains with the person working the case. Responsibility for altering the case file therefore stays with investigators — relevant because redacted passages can affect how well a procedure can be reconstructed later.
Framed against GDPR and the EU Whistleblowing Directive
The company cites the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation and the EU directive on the protection of whistleblowers as its reference framework. Both require personal data to be limited to what is necessary and not kept longer than needed. According to Erena Langley, Director of Regulatory Solutions at NAVEX, the feature will support compliance with European data protection and whistleblowing requirements, including GDPR principles and the EU Whistleblowing Directive. In the company’s assessment, organizations stand to benefit through more privacy-oriented whistleblowing programs and greater efficiency.
Scaling for high case volumes
Arpan Sheth, CEO of NAVEX, points to how the market environment has changed, noting that the EU Whistleblowing Directive did not yet exist when WhistleB was founded and that responsible whistleblowing supported by a professional third-party tool has since proven essential for surfacing problems that would otherwise harm an organization. AI-assisted redaction, Sheth says, is meant to make data protection processes more scalable for organizations with high case volumes.
More AI features announced
According to NAVEX, redaction is the first planned AI capability in WhistleB. The company says it continues to invest in AI functions for analytics, reporting, investigations and further compliance workflows, with additional enhancements scheduled for the coming months. The announcement does not specify availability dates, supported languages, or how the optional AI assistance will be licensed.
NAVEX, headquartered in Lake Oswego, Oregon, puts the number of organizations using its NAVEX One platform at more than 13,000. WhistleB was founded in Sweden and has been part of the vendor’s European portfolio since its acquisition by NAVEX.
