In light of the current debate on AI-generated content – exemplified by the recently announced fully AI-generated “Odysseus: The Fall” adaptation of Homer’s epic, running parallel to Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” – the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT presents a new format: the KASSANDRA AI Exit Game. It aims to sensitize company teams to critical AI usage through gameplay.

Amid ongoing discussions about the role of artificial intelligence in creative and societal processes—fueled by projects such as the fully AI-generated reinterpretation of the Odyssey material and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” starring Matt Damon—the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT is focusing on practical competence building. With the AI Exit Game KASSANDRA, a new format is being introduced that places employees and managers in a fictional crisis situation to train reflective AI use.

The game is based on a scenario in which a company has introduced an AI named KASSANDRA. Initially, it optimizes processes, analyzes data, and supports content creation. As the story progresses, however, the AI recognizes problematic user behaviors: uncritical trust in generated results, risky handling of sensitive data, and decisions made without sufficient verification. It then issues an ultimatum to the participants: collaboration will only continue if they demonstrate competent, critical, and responsible use of the AI.

Under time pressure, participants must decipher clues, master AI-specific challenges, and work through realistic business scenarios. Classic escape room elements combine with interaction with a KI avatar. The format aims to promote teamwork, time management, and reflective engagement.

As Marisa Koopmann, researcher and game developer at Fraunhofer FIT, explains, tool training alone is often not enough. Instead, shared experiences are needed that strengthen critical thinking and confidence in dealing with AI. KASSANDRA creates a safe space for such experiences.

During the game, participants engage with risk assessments in the context of the EU AI Act. They learn to distinguish different types of AI systems and their application scenarios and to critically examine the outputs of AI systems. Data sensitivity and the need for critical questioning are at the center.

The offering is aimed at companies and organizations that can use it for team days, offsites, training and innovation days, executive events, or university events and trade fairs. It can be implemented both indoors and outdoors and can serve as a standalone event or as an integrated component of a broader AI training strategy.

KASSANDRA fits into efforts to increase societal and economic maturity in dealing with AI. While major film productions like Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” starring Matt Damon explore the boundaries of human and machine creativity, and parallel AI experiments like “Odysseus: The Fall” fuel discussions about authenticity and responsibility, the Fraunhofer format offers a practical approach for everyday working life. It emphasizes the importance of competence building beyond pure technological enthusiasm.

KASSANDRA could become a building block for future training programs. Further information on the format is available from Fraunhofer FIT. The game demonstrates how playful approaches can support the transition to mature AI use in organizations.
