As traditional backup tools struggle to meet modern restore speed requirements and cloud scale, Lyon-based startup Cybee introduces an innovative cloud-native solution designed for ultimate cyber resilience as shown on IT Press Tour.
Against the backdrop of escalating cyber threats and strict European compliance frameworks, French tech pioneer Cybee unveiled its next-generation cloud backup and disaster recovery orchestration platform during the IT Press Tour in September 2026. Developed out of a necessity to overcome legacy limitations in data recovery speed, vendor lock-in, and infrastructure dependence, Cybee combines open-source engine efficiency with enterprise-grade orchestration to safeguard modern organizational data environments.
Building on a Decade of Disaster Recovery Expertise
Founded in December 2022 as part of the family-owned ARYME Group, Cybee was not built from scratch. Co-founders Eric Deronzier—a 40-year IT veteran with 25 years in cybersecurity—and CTO Gabriel Saudin leveraged over 12 years of hands-on experience running Nuabee, a pioneer in Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS). Having managed disaster recovery scenarios for mid-sized enterprises and public authorities across Europe, the team recognized fundamental flaws in existing backup architectures when faced with modern cloud scales.
Traditional backup systems, originally engineered during the local area network (LAN) era, frequently fail in modern cloud environments. They suffer from poor cloud deduplication, sluggish recovery speeds for multi-terabyte data sets, fragmented agents across operating systems, and restrictive proprietary formats that lock organizations into specific vendors. Cybee was explicitly created to bridge these critical functional gaps.
A Technical Foundation Built on Open-Source Power and High Performance
At the heart of Cybee’s architecture is the Restic open-source backup engine. By extending this engine through extensive research and development, Cybee transformed a simple engine into an enterprise-grade orchestration ecosystem. Key system features include:
- Unified Agent Architecture: Constructed entirely in Rust, a single lightweight agent seamlessly services both Windows and Linux environments.
- High-Speed Cloud Restores: Performance tests demonstrate restore throughput reaching up to 4 TB per hour per disk when leveraging high-performance cloud storage like Extreme SSDs, enabling restoration times up to ten times faster than legacy competitors.
- Immutable Security & End-to-End Encryption: To counteract ransomware attacks, data is encrypted at the source using AES-256 and stored in an immutable, object-locked format. Customer keys are held securely in dedicated vaults rather than exposed within customer infrastructure.
- Reversibility and Open Formats: Utilizing Restic’s open format ensures organizations avoid vendor lock-in, allowing long-term data accessibility regardless of platform shifts.
European Sovereignty and Regulatory Compliance
Cybee’s operational strategy heavily emphasizes European digital sovereignty. Supported by Bpifrance with a €500k R&D loan and backed by Hexatrust, Cybee explicitly operates independently of non-European hyperscalers. The architecture leverages OpenStack-based European cloud infrastructure—such as T-Systems / Open Telecom Cloud—providing strict data residency across locations in Germany and the Netherlands.
Furthermore, Cybee’s architecture is “Compliant by Design” to meet rigid European Union frameworks, including NIS2, DORA, and ISO 27001. Under new regulatory mandates, organizations must prove operational resilience through real, verifiable recovery tests—a core capability built directly into Cybee’s platform orchestration.
Real-World Application and Expansion Strategy
Cybee’s effectiveness is proven through real-world customer deployments, including handling a massive 8 TB Windows file server containing 63 million files. While legacy incremental backups failed after 24 hours on this environment, Cybee reduced daily snapshots to just 3 hours and achieved full recovery (RTO) in 10 hours.
Currently deployed across Nuabee’s client base protecting over 2,500 critical virtual machines, Cybee is executing a structured roll-out. Through a primary partnership with Orange Business Flexible Recovery, Cybee will target regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, transport, and local authorities, before expanding across European Managed Service Provider (MSP) networks through 2027.
Sales Strategy: Expansion into Germany Planned
Cybee is already a partner of Telekom through the Open Telecom Cloud and has customers in Benelux and France. The company now aims to attract more customers in Germany. To achieve high market penetration without capital-intensive direct sales structures, Cybee is relying on a partner-oriented go-to-market strategy:
- Strategic Alliance with Orange Business: Cybee provides the technical foundation for Orange Business Flexible Recovery. This enables Orange to offer its enterprise customers across Europe a fully managed, sovereign cloud backup and DRaaS solution directly from a single source.
- Cooperation with Deutsche Telekom: Cybee utilizes the OpenStack infrastructure of Deutsche Telekom T-Systems / Open Telecom Cloud. By storing immutable backups in German data centers, Cybee offers a fully GDPR-compliant solution for the strict data protection requirements in German-speaking countries.
- Go-to-market strategy for the German market: As Europe’s largest economy, Germany is the central focus of Cybee’s international expansion. The target groups include German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), operators of critical infrastructure (KRITIS), and the public sector.
The company is entering the market by integrating more closely into the Telekom ecosystem and by building a network of regional German managed service providers (MSPs) that are seeking independent alternatives to U.S. backup providers.
