| Martin Hager, Gründer und CEO von Retarus, sieht die Übernahme des größten deutschen Cybersecurity-Anbieters Hornetsecurity durch Proofpoint als Weckruf: „Die Übernahmen europäischer Cybersecurity-Anbieter durch US-Konzerne sind kein bloßer Markttrend – sie sind ein Weckruf. Wenn amerikanische Investoren zunehmend die Kontrolle über kritische digitale Infrastrukturen übernehmen, wird es in Zukunft keine europäischen Sicherheitsanbieter mehr geben. Zugleich steigt die Gefahr, dass Geschäftsgeheimnisse verloren gehen, wenn Transport und Speicherung sensibler Informationen an Unternehmen ausgelagert werden, die nicht denselben Werte- und Rechtsstandards unterliegen.
Gerade jetzt, wo Europa dringend seine technologische Unabhängigkeit stärken muss, handeln europäische Unternehmen fahrlässig, kritische Infrastruktur in die Hände von Anbietern zu legen, die einer immer unberechenbareren US-Politik unterworfen sind. Wenn wir jetzt nicht handeln, gefährden wir nicht nur lokale Innovation, sondern gelangen in immer stärkere Abhängigkeit von US-Akteuren. Europa braucht mehr als Debatten. Es braucht mutige Entscheidungen auf nationaler und europäischer Ebene, damit Cloud- und Sicherheitsdienste ausschließlich von europäischen Anbietern bezogen werden. Die angekündigte Übernahme von Hornetsecurity durch Proofpoint zeigt, dass auch im Bereich E-Mail Security digitale Souveränität kein politisches Buzzword, sondern eine operative Notwendigkeit ist.“ |
Martin Hager, founder and CEO of Retarus, sees the takeover of Germany’s largest cybersecurity provider, Hornetsecurity, by Proofpoint as a wake-up call. „These takeovers are not just a market trend — they are a wake-up call. If American investors increasingly take control of critical digital infrastructures, there will be no European security providers in the future.“ At the same time, there is a growing risk of losing business secrets if sensitive information is transported and stored by companies that do not adhere to the same values and legal standards.
At a time when Europe urgently needs to strengthen its technological independence, European companies are acting negligently by placing critical infrastructure in the hands of providers subject to increasingly unpredictable U.S. policies. If we do not act now, we will not only jeopardize local innovation but also become increasingly dependent on U.S. companies. Europe needs more than debates. It needs bold decisions at the national and European levels to ensure that cloud and security services are sourced exclusively from European providers. The announced takeover of Hornetsecurity by Proofpoint shows that digital sovereignty is an operational necessity in the field of email security, not just a political buzzword.” |
