| Drei deutsche Storage-Anbieter bringen gemeinsam eine innovative Lösung auf den Markt. Auf dem CloudFest in Rust stellen die BDT Media Automation aus Rottweil, die PoINT Software & Systems GmbH aus Siegen und die COMBACK GmbH aus Oberreichenbach die ORION S3 Tape Appliance vor. Die gemeinsame Lösung der drei Storage-Spezialisten adressiert die Herausforderungen im Hyperscale Computing und allen anderen Bereichen, die mit stark wachsenden Datenmengen rechnen müssen.
ORION S3 kombiniert die neue BDT ORION MC6 Library mit der S3-to-Tape Software PoINT Archival Gateway. Die Lösung setzt auf Standardisierung auf Hard- und Software-Ebene: Die Library ist rackmountable und für den LTO-Standard ausgelegt, die Software stellt die standardisierte S3-Schnittstelle zur Verfügung. Damit ermöglicht ORION S3 einen langfristigen Investitionsschutz und eine einfache Integration in das Rechenzentrum. Die ORION MC6 Library ist die erste Tape Library, die BDT unter eigenem Namen vermarktet; bislang produzierte der Weltmarktführer aus dem Schwarzwald ausschließlich für den OEM-Markt. Die ORION S3 Tape Appliance bietet bis zu 974 Slots und bis zu 21 LTO-9 FH Laufwerke bei flexibler Skalierbarkeit. Der vorinstallierte S3-Objektspeicher PoINT Archival Gateway zeichnet sich durch hohe Leistungswerte aus. Die Durchsatzrate beträgt bis zu 8,4 GB/s. Die Anwendungsfälle für die Appliance reichen von S3 Backup über Hyperscale Computing bis hin zur Langzeitarchivierung. Adressaten sind insbesondere Managed Service Provider sowie Forschungseinrichtungen und die KI-Branche, die in besonderem Maße mit steigenden Datenmengen zu kämpfen hat. „Objektspeicherung auf Tape ist aus keinem großen Rechenzentrum mehr wegzudenken“, sagt Marcus Stier, Head of Business Development der COMBACK GmbH, die den EMEA-Vertrieb der ORION S3 übernimmt: „Die ORION S3 ist die Antwort auf die Herausforderungen, von denen unsere Kunden täglich berichten. Three German storage vendors have joined forces to bring an innovative solution to market. At the CloudFest in Rust, BDT Media Automation from Rottweil, PoINT Software & Systems GmbH from Siegen and COMBACK GmbH from Oberreichenbach present the ORION S3 Tape Appliance. The joint solution of the three storage specialists addresses the challenges of hyperscale computing and all other areas that have to cope with rapidly growing data volumes.
ORION S3 combines the new BDT ORION MC6 library with the S3-to-Tape software PoINT Archival Gateway. The solution is based on standardization at hardware and software level: the library is rack-mountable and designed for the LTO standard, while the software provides the standardized S3 interface. ORION S3 provides long-term investment protection and easy integration into the data center. The ORION MC6 library is the first tape library that BDT has marketed under its own name; until now, the world market leader from the Black Forest has produced exclusively for the OEM market. The ORION S3 tape appliance offers up to 974 slots and up to 21 LTO-9 FH drives with flexible scalability. The pre-installed S3 object storage PoINT Archival Gateway is characterized by high performance. The throughput is up to 8.4 GB/s. The use cases for the appliance range from S3 backup to hyperscale computing and long-term archiving.
