LibreOffice ist die einzige Open Source Office Suite für persönliche Produktivität, die in allen Funktionen mit dem Marktführer vergleichbar ist. Nach zwölf Jahren und fünf Releasezyklen – Codebereinigung, Code-Refaktorisierung, Verbesserung der Benutzeroberfläche, Erweiterung auf neue Hardware- und Softwareplattformen und Optimierung der Interoperabilität mit OOXML zur Unterstützung der Benutzer – wird es immer schwieriger, völlig neue Funktionen zu entwickeln.

Die wichtigsten neuen Funktionen

ALLGEMEIN
• Unterstützung für Zoom-Gesten bei der Verwendung von Touchpads in der Hauptansicht.
• Unterstützung für Dokumenten-Themen sowie Import und Export von Themendefinitionen für ODF- und OOXML-Dokumente.
• Viele Verbesserungen bei der Handhabung von Schriften, insbesondere für nah- und fernöstliche Schriften.

WRITER
• Hervorhebung für verwendete Absatz- und Zeichenformate sowie direkte Formatierung im Text.
• Assistent für neue Seitenzahlen im Menü „Einfügen“, um einfacher und in einem Schritt Seitenzahlen in der Kopf-/Fußzeile einzufügen.
• Das Dropdown-Menü Absatzformate in der Symbolleiste Formatierung zeigt eine Liste der im Dokument verwendeten Formate und nicht mehr die komplette Liste der verfügbaren Formate.
• Abbildungsverzeichnisse können flexibler auf der Grundlage von Absatzstilen und nicht nur von Kategorien oder Objektnamen erstellt werden.
• Bibliographie-Einträge können direkt aus einer Bibliographie-Tabelle heraus bearbeitet werden, und Bibliographie-Markierungen verweisen standardmäßig auf die entsprechende Zeile in einer Bibliographie-Tabelle.
• Wörterbucheinträge können jetzt mehr als ein einzelnes Wort enthalten, zum Beispiel “The Document Foundation”, und werden als komplette Phrase geprüft.

CALC
• Zahlenformat: „?“ wird jetzt beim Export nach ODF unterstützt, um eine ganze Zahl darzustellen, die durch ein Leerzeichen ersetzt wird, wenn es sich um eine nicht signifikante Null handelt, und Dezimalzahlen für Formate in Sekunden ohne Kürzung wie [SS].00 werden jetzt akzeptiert.
• Kalkulationstabellen, die in ein anderes Dokument kopiert werden, behalten jetzt einen benutzerdefinierten Druckbereich bei.
• Die Solver-Einstellungen werden mit den Dokumenten gespeichert, und die Seitenformate werden exportiert, auch wenn sie nicht verwendet werden.
• Unterstützung für Zeichenstile für Formen und Kommentare, einschließlich eines speziellen Stils für Kommentare, der es ermöglicht, die Standarddarstellung und die Textformatierung neuer Kommentare anzupassen.
• Neues kompaktes Layout für Pivot-Tabellen.
• Autofilter-Unterstützung für die Sortierung nach Farben.
• Der Dialog Text importieren (als CSV-Datei oder als unformatierter Text) hat eine neue Option, um Zahlen in wissenschaftlicher Notation nicht zu erkennen (aber nur wenn „Spezielle Zahlen erkennen“ ausgeschaltet ist).

IMPRESS & DRAW
• Neues Navigationspanel zum Wechseln der Folien während der Anzeige einer Präsentation (die Option wird durch Markieren eines Kontrollkästchens in den Präsentationseinstellungen aktiviert).
• Objekte können nun im Navigator in der Reihenfolge von vorne nach hinten aufgelistet werden, wobei das oberste Objekt am Anfang der Liste steht.
• Unterstützung für Freitext-Anmerkungen beim PDFium-Import sowie Unterstützung für Freitext und Polygon/Polyline-Anmerkungen beim PDFium-Export.
• Der Algorithmus zur automatischen Anpassung der Textskalierung wurde so geändert, dass er ähnlich wie in MS Office funktioniert. Bei der Textskalierung wird jetzt zwischen der Skalierung von Leerraum (Absatz und Zeile) und der Skalierung von Schriftarten unterschieden, wobei die Skalierung von Leerraum 100 %, 90 % und 80 % betragen kann und die Skalierung von Schriftarten auf die nächstliegende Punktgröße gerundet wird. Horizontale Abstände (Aufzählungszeichen, Einzüge) werden nicht mehr skaliert.
• Verschiedene Verbesserungen in der Schriftverwaltung für CJK und Arabisch.

Interoperabilität mit Microsoft Office

Hier einige der wichtigsten Verbesserungen:

• Writer: mehrere Korrekturen für Rahmen in DOCX-Dateien, für verlorene Rahmen, kombinierte Rahmen, die getrennt sein sollten, geteilte Rahmen, die kombiniert sein sollten, überlappende Rahmen, ignorierte übergeordnete Stile, verlorene relative Positionierung, falsche absolute Positionierung und verlorene Drehung.
  • Writer: Zeicheneigenschaften von DOCX-Absatzmarkierungen werden jetzt auch in ODT-Dateien gespeichert.
  • Writer: Deutliche Verbesserungen bei der Handhabung mehrseitiger gleitender Tabellen, insbesondere beim Import/Export von Dateien aus/nach DOCX/DOC/RTF.
  • Calc: Export von bedingt formatierten Zellrandfarben nach XLSX korrigiert.

LibreOffice bietet native Unterstützung des OpenDocument Format (ODF) – und schlägt damit proprietäre Formate hinsichtlich Sicherheit und Robustheit – mit überlegenem Support für MS Office Dateien und Filtern für eine Menge an älteren Formaten, um den Anwendern die Kontrolle über ihre Dokumente zurück zu geben.

Microsoft-Dateien basieren noch immer auf dem proprietären Format, das durch die ISO im Jahr 2008 als veraltet gekennzeichnet wurde, und nicht auf einem von der ISO anerkannten Standard, wodurch sie im großen Maß eine künstliche Komplexität verstecken. Dies verursacht Verarbeitungsprobleme in LibreOffice, dessen Standard ein wirklich offenes Standardformat ist (das Open Document Format).

LibreOffice is the only open source office suite for personal productivity that is comparable in all features to the market leader. After twelve years and five release cycles-code cleanup, code refactoring, user interface enhancement, expansion to new hardware and software platforms, and interoperability optimization with OOXML to support users-it is becoming increasingly difficult to develop entirely new features.

The most important new functions

GENERAL

– Support for zoom gestures when using touchpads in the main view.

– Support for document themes and import and export of theme definitions for ODF and OOXML documents.

– Many font handling improvements, especially for Near and Far Eastern fonts.

WRITER

– Highlighting for used paragraph and character formats as well as direct formatting in the text.

– New Page Number Wizard in the Insert menu to more easily insert page numbers in the header/footer in one step.

– Paragraph styles drop-down menu in the Formatting toolbar shows a list of styles used in the document rather than the full list of available styles.

– Figure directories can be created more flexibly based on paragraph styles rather than just categories or object names.

– Bibliography entries can be edited directly from a bibliography table, and bibliography markers point to the corresponding row in a bibliography table by default.

– Dictionary entries can now contain more than a single word, for example „The Document Foundation“, and are checked as a complete phrase.

CALC

– Number format: „?“ is now supported when exporting to ODF to represent a whole number replaced by a space if it is a non-significant zero, and decimal numbers for formats in seconds without truncation such as [SS].00 are now accepted.

– Spreadsheets copied to another document now retain a custom print area.

– Solver settings are saved with the documents, and page formats are exported even if they are not used.

– Support for character styles for shapes and comments, including a special style for comments that allows customizing the default appearance and text formatting of new comments.

– New compact layout for pivot tables.

– Autofilter support for sorting by colors.

– Import text dialog (as CSV file or as unformatted text) has a new option to not recognize numbers in scientific notation (but only if „Recognize special numbers“ is turned off).

IMPRESS & DRAW

– New navigation panel to switch slides while viewing a presentation (the option is enabled by checking a checkbox in the presentation settings).

– Objects can now be listed in the Navigator in front-to-back order, with the top object at the top of the list.

– Support for free text annotations in PDFium import and support for free text and polygon/polyline annotations in PDFium export.

– The algorithm for automatic text scaling adjustment has been changed to work similar to MS Office. Text scaling now distinguishes between whitespace (paragraph and line) scaling and font scaling, where whitespace scaling can be 100%, 90%, and 80%, and font scaling is rounded to the nearest point size. Horizontal spacing (bullets, indents) is no longer scaled.

– Various improvements in font management for CJK and Arabic.

Interoperability with Microsoft Office

Here are some of the most important improvements:

– Writer: multiple fixes for frames in DOCX files, for lost frames, combined frames that should be separate, split frames that should be combined, overlapping frames, ignored parent styles, lost relative positioning, incorrect absolute positioning, and lost rotation.

– Writer: Character properties of DOCX paragraph markers are now also saved in ODT files.

– Writer: Significant improvements in handling multi-page sliding tables, especially when importing/exporting files from/to DOCX/DOC/RTF.

– Calc: Export of conditionally formatted cell border colors to XLSX fixed.

LibreOffice offers native support for OpenDocument Format (ODF) – beating proprietary formats for security and robustness – with superior support for MS Office files and filters for a host of legacy formats to give users back control of their documents.

Microsoft files are still based on the proprietary format, which was marked as obsolete by ISO in 2008, rather than an ISO-approved standard, hiding artificial complexity to a large extent. This causes processing problems in LibreOffice, whose standard is a truly open standard format (the Open Document Format).
