Elastic also introduced Workflows as a tech preview. The feature extends Agent Builder with rule-based automation. While many agent frameworks require large language models (LLMs) to plan each automation step, Workflows relies on a combination of AI-powered reasoning and rule-based actions.

With Workflows, agents can orchestrate internal and external systems, execute actions, and capture and transform data. Ken Exner, Chief Product Officer at Elastic, describes the combination of Agent Builder and Workflows as a system that combines intelligent reasoning and reliable automation.

Model-agnostic approach

Agent Builder is designed to be model-agnostic and works with various model-as-a-service providers, including cloud hyperscalers. The platform is available in Elastic Cloud Serverless, as well as in the Enterprise tier of Elastic Cloud Hosted and in self-managed Elastic Stack releases for existing customers. Workflows is available as a tech preview.
