Mit Inkrafttreten neuer europäischer Regularien wie dem EU Data Act und vor dem Hintergrund geopolitischer Unsicherheiten rückt das Thema Datensouveränität in den Fokus von Unternehmen und öffentlichen Organisationen. Laut Workday nennen mehr als 80 Prozent der Führungskräfte Datensouveränität als strategische Priorität. Gleichzeitig stehen diese vor der Herausforderung, durch KI-Einsatz Effizienzgewinne zu erzielen, ohne dabei Compliance-Risiken einzugehen oder operative Kontrolle abzugeben.

EU-basierte Infrastruktur mit lokaler Kontrolle

Die Workday EU Sovereign Cloud bietet eine in der Europäischen Union angesiedelte Umgebung für HR- und Finanzanwendungen. Kundendaten verbleiben innerhalb der EU-Grenzen. Alle Betriebsabläufe – einschließlich KI-Verarbeitung, Zugang zu Rechenzentren, Support und Wartung – werden von Personal in der EU durchgeführt. Eine integrierte Verschlüsselung schützt Informationen bei Speicherung und Übertragung.

Technische Grundlage und Verfügbarkeit

Die Lösung basiert auf der Cloud-Infrastruktur von AWS und nutzt deren Skalierbarkeit und Sicherheitsstandards. Die EU-basierte Infrastruktur umfasst mehrere geografisch voneinander getrennte Rechenzentren, um die Verfügbarkeit von Systemen wie Lohnabrechnung, HR, Finanzen und Planung sicherzustellen. Hardware-Schutzmechanismen sollen unbefugten Zugriff verhindern. Ein EU-Beratungsgremium überwacht die Einhaltung von Transparenz- und Compliance-Anforderungen.

Die Workday EU Sovereign Cloud soll europäischen Kunden ab 2026 zur Verfügung stehen. Weitere regional zugeschnittene Angebote zur Datensouveränität sind geplant.

Data sovereignty becomes a strategic priority

With the entry into force of new European regulations such as the EU Data Act and against the backdrop of geopolitical uncertainties, the issue of data sovereignty is becoming a focus for companies and public organizations. According to Workday, more than 80 percent of executives cite data sovereignty as a strategic priority. At the same time, they face the challenge of achieving efficiency gains through the use of AI without compromising compliance risks or relinquishing operational control.

EU-based infrastructure with local control

The Workday EU Sovereign Cloud provides an environment for HR and financial applications based in the European Union. Customer data remains within the EU. All operations—including AI processing, data center access, support, and maintenance—are performed by personnel in the EU. Integrated encryption protects information during storage and transmission.

The EU Sovereign Cloud is designed to enable customers to leverage AI capabilities while keeping their data protected and compliant.

Technical foundation and availability

The solution is based on AWS’s cloud infrastructure and leverages its scalability and security standards. The EU-based infrastructure includes multiple geographically separate data centers to ensure the availability of systems such as payroll, HR, finance, and planning. Hardware protection mechanisms are designed to prevent unauthorized access. An EU advisory board monitors compliance with transparency and compliance requirements.

The Workday EU Sovereign Cloud is expected to be available to European customers starting in 2026. Additional regionally tailored data sovereignty offerings are planned.
