Palantir goes to Florida

Nun gibt es natürlich Spekulationen: An der Steuerlast wird es wahrscheinlich nicht liegen, denn die ist in Florida höher als in Colorado. Allerdings gibt es in Florida keine Einkommensteuer, von der die Spitzenverdiener des Unternehmens profitieren könnten.

Der Gouverneur von Colorado, Jared Polis (Demokrat), und der Bürgermeister des bisherigen Firmensitzes Denver, Mike Johnston (Demokrat), wurden vom Umzug anscheinend völlig überrascht. Polis konnte noch keine Aussage darüber treffen, welche Auswirkungen der Umzug auf die Arbeitsplätze in Colorado haben wird.  Er schätzt, dass derzeit etwa 500 Beschäftigte von Palantir in Colorado arbeiten.

Aufgrund der Verträge von Palantir mit dem US-Militär und der US-Ausländerbehörde ICE kam es in Denver zu zahlreichen Demonstrationen gegen das Unternehmen. Es wird auch spekuliert, dass das traditionell konservative Florida unter Gouverneur Ron DeSantis (Republikaner) ein freundlicheres Umfeld bietet als das progressive Colorado.

Laut dem gestern veröffentlichten Jahresbericht hat Palantir im abgelaufenen Jahr den Umsatz mehr als verdreifacht – von 468 Millionen Dollar im Jahr 2024 auf 1,634 Milliarden Dollar im Jahr 2025. In dem Bericht wird das neue KI-Gesetz in Colorado erwähnt, das algorithmische Diskriminierung untersagt und eine Informationspflicht gegenüber Verbrauchern vorsieht, wenn KI-Entscheidungen ihre Finanzen oder Gesundheitsvorsorge betreffen.  Laut dem Finanzbericht befürchtet Palantir, dass die Auswirkungen des Gesetzes kostspielig sein könnten und schwer umzusetzen wären.

There is now speculation, of course, but it is unlikely to be due to the tax burden, as this is higher in Florida than in Colorado. However, Florida has no income tax, which could benefit the company’s top earners.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis (Democrat) and Mike Johnston (Democrat), the mayor of Denver, where the company previously had its headquarters, were apparently taken completely by surprise by the move. Polis has not yet commented on the potential job losses in Colorado that the move could cause.  He estimates that Palantir currently employs around 500 people in Colorado.

The company’s contracts with the US military and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) have led to numerous demonstrations in Denver. There is also speculation that conservative Florida, under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, offers a friendlier environment than progressive Colorado.

According to Palantir’s annual report, published yesterday, the company more than tripled its revenue in the past year — from $468 million in 2024 to $1.634 billion in 2025. The report mentions Colorado’s new AI law, which prohibits algorithmic discrimination and requires companies to disclose information to consumers when AI decisions affect their finances or healthcare. However, according to the financial report, Palantir fears that the impact of the law could be costly and difficult to implement.
