DocuWare AI Hub

Mit der Einrichtung des KI-Hubs setzt DocuWare die nach der Übernahme des KI-Softwareunternehmens natif.ai Anfang 2024 begonnene Strategie fort. Das Unternehmen will damit eigene KI-Kompetenzen aufbauen und die Abhängigkeit von externen Anbietern reduzieren.

Fokus auf Datenschutz und EU-Regularien

Die entwickelten Lösungen sollen den Anforderungen des EU AI Act 2025 entsprechen und europäische Datenschutzstandards erfüllen. Kooperation mit Forschungseinrichtungen

DocuWare kooperiert für das Vorhaben mit dem Deutschen Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) und mehreren Universitäten. Die Zusammenarbeit soll wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse in die Produktentwicklung einbringen.

Organisatorische Struktur

Manuel Zapp, Mitgründer von natif.ai, übernimmt die Position des Vice President AI und leitet das Team vom Standort Saarbrücken aus. Sein Mitgründer Johannes Korves wird als Executive Advisor Corporate Strategy tätig sein.

Entwicklungsschwerpunkte

Das Team konzentriert sich auf mehrere Bereiche: den Aufbau eigener Foundation-Modelle, insbesondere kompakter LLMs für Agentic AI, die Weiterentwicklung der OCR-Technologie sowie die Anpassung verschiedener Dateiformate für LLMs.

In der Produktentwicklung liegt der Fokus auf DocuWare IDP, einem System zur intelligenten Dokumentenverarbeitung. Zudem plant das Unternehmen die Entwicklung von KI-Assistenten und Automation-Lösungen, die auf Unternehmensdaten basieren und Datenschutzstandards einhalten sollen.

With the establishment of the AI Hub, DocuWare is continuing the strategy it began after acquiring the AI software company natif.ai in early 2024. The company aims to build up its own AI expertise and reduce its dependence on external providers.

Focus on data protection and EU regulations

The solutions developed are to comply with the requirements of the EU AI Act 2025 and meet European data protection standards. Dr. Michael Berger, CEO of DocuWare, justifies the move with the growing potential of AI in document management and the goal of securing the company’s position as a cloud ECM provider.

Cooperation with research institutions

DocuWare is cooperating with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and several universities on the project. The collaboration is intended to bring scientific findings into product development.

Organizational structure

Development focus

The team is concentrating on several areas: developing its own foundation models, in particular compact LLMs for agentic AI, further developing OCR technology, and adapting various file formats for LLMs.

In product development, the focus is on DocuWare IDP, a system for intelligent document processing. The company also plans to develop AI assistants and automation solutions based on company data and compliant with data protection standards.
