AWS European Sovereign Cloud: Israël Managing Director

Israël bringt einen großen Erfahrungsschatz in seine neue Führungsrolle ein. Zuletzt war er als Partner bei der Boston Consulting Group tätig. Zuvor war er CEO von Arianespace, Europas führendem Unternehmen für Satellitenstarts und einem Startdienstleister für Amazons Project Kuiper. Dort verantwortete er zahlreiche erfolgreiche Weltraummissionen, darunter den Start des James-Webb-Weltraumteleskops, und pflegte intensive Beziehungen zu Entscheidungsträgern aus dem öffentlichen und privaten Sektor in ganz Europa und darüber hinaus.

Zuvor war er von 2007 bis 2012 Vice President bei Airbus, danach ein Jahr im französischen Finanzministerium. Seine Ausbildung erfolgte an der französischen Eliteuniversität ENA – Ecole Nationale d’Administration.

In seiner neuen Rolle wird Stéphane Israël für das Management und den Betrieb der AWS European Sovereign Cloud verantwortlich sein. Das umfasst die Bereiche Infrastruktur, Technologie, Services und Vertrieb sowie die Leitung des globalen Engagements von AWS für digitale Souveränität.

Er wird hauptsächlich in Berlin ansässig sein und mit Kathrin Renz, Vice President AWS Industries, zusammenarbeiten. Sie wurde im Juni zur ersten Geschäftsführerin der AWS European Sovereign Cloud ernannt und fungiert als Expertin für sämtliche Aspekte des Themas Souveränität. Beide Führungskräfte sind dazu verpflichtet, im Interesse der neu gegründeten GmbH zu handeln.

Die AWS European Sovereign Cloud, mit einem geplanten Investitionsvolumen von 7,8 Milliarden Euro, soll Ende 2025 verfügbar sein. Israel brings a wealth of experience to his new leadership role. Most recently, he was a partner at the Boston Consulting Group. Prior to that, he was CEO of Arianespace, Europe’s leading satellite launch company and a launch service provider for Amazon’s Project Kuiper. There, he oversaw numerous successful space missions, including the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, and maintained close relationships with decision-makers from the public and private sectors across Europe and beyond.

Previously, he was Vice President at Airbus from 2007 to 2012 and then spent a year at the French Ministry of Finance. He was educated at the prestigious French university, ENA – Ecole Nationale d’Administration.

In his new role, Stéphane Israel will be responsible for managing and operating the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, including infrastructure, technology, services, and sales, as well as leading AWS’s global engagement on digital sovereignty. He will be based in Berlin and work closely with Kathrin Renz, Vice President of AWS Industries, who was appointed as the first Managing Director of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud in June and serves as an expert on all aspects of sovereignty. Both leaders are committed to acting in the best interest of the newly formed GmbH.
